Do I need to re-register my society under the new Act?

Yes. All incorporated societies in New Zealand must re-register under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022. The deadline for re-registration is April 2026. If your society doesn't re-register by then, you risk losing your incorporated status – which affects your ability to enter contracts, hold property, and operate as a legal entity.

What records does the new Act require us to keep?

The new Act requires societies to maintain an up-to-date officer register, minutes of all committee and general meetings, a conflicts of interest register, and financial records.
